Building a Canoe, Day 9
Today certainly took a turn none of us were hoping for! One of the folks who has worked on the canoe over the past two weeks had a family member test positive for COVID. In an effort to be as safe as possible, we ended the youth-facing portion of the canoe build. We were sad to do it, but we certainly don’t want to inadvertently spread the coronavirus.
We all went to get a COVID test at the DECC, and then we we moved the canoe back over to the folk school, where we can work on the final parts of the canoe with our loading doors wide open. Once we were set up, we got back to work with masks, to keep making progress.
We finish installing the second seat and the yoke, and we oiled the entire boat so, we should be ready to get the skin sewn, stretched and gooped tomorrow! Not as much progress as hoped, and with WAY fewer kids than we would prefer, but the end is in sight!
