Helen Smith Stone
Named “Minnesota Quilter of the Year” in 2024, Helen maintains that “quilting is another form of art.” She has been making quilts for 40 years and is passionate about working with fabric and thread. A retired educator, she still enjoys teaching – especially quilting classes for beginners. She is always up for teaching more challenging quilting techniques to experienced quilters, too.
Several of Helen’s quilts have won awards and are featured in books, magazines, and the annual QuiltArt Engagement Calendar published by the American Quilter’s Society of Paducah, KY. She was a Longarm quilter for 20 years and produced her own quilt show, Quilting on the
Waterfront, from 2004 – 2012. Helen started a quilt guild in Duluth in 2001 and led the organization for 20 years before retiring both the guild and herself in 2021. She is an active member of the Northern Lights Quilters Guild (Duluth) and encourages other quilters to join.
