The Giving Forest
-
July 12, 2025
11:00 am - 2:00 pm
In this class we explore the deep connections between the natural world, ourselves and the food we eat. We continue to exist because of the nourishment provided by the beings around us. Intaking food and having the food turn into our cells and tissues is a remarkable experience. We give back to the vegetation around us by breathing out CO2 and moisture. In this way we are feeding each other. During our time together in the woods we will reflect on the web of life and how profound insights can come from observing nature.
Registration Includes…
A light vegetarian charcuterie lunch is included (can be made gluten free or cow milk free on request). Please make sure you bring a water bottle.
What goes into our class pricing? As a local nonprofit, Duluth Folk School is committed to supporting both our instructors and community. We want to compensate our instructors fairly, keep class sizes small, and keep our doors open—while also keeping prices as low as we can.
Thank you for participating in our local handcraft and education economy! Together, we help keep Duluth a fun and vibrant place.

- You should bring: Please wear clothes you are comfortable with getting dirty as we often sit on the ground. The forest can be muddy and wet, and it is easy to get chilled if you aren’t dressed warm enough. Wear more than you think you will need. You can always take something off! In addition, it is possible it may rain, so bring a rain jacket and rain gear. We will go unless there is lightning or the guide deems the conditions unsafe. Dress in layers to keep yourself comfortable during the experience. Also, please bring: A water bottle, Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, apply sunscreen ahead of time), tick protection (long pants to tuck into socks) and sturdy shoes for walking on uneven surfaces.
Location
Class will meet at Lester Park. Please meet at the Gazebo.
