Sharpening for Spoon Carvers

Keeping tools sharp is an integral part of carving. We will work on the basic techniques of stropping and using sharpening stones for both carving knives and hook knives. We will also talk about blade geometry and maintaining a proper cutting edge.
This introduction to sharpening is for spoon carving tools but the techniques could be applied to other tools and implements generally.
Registration Includes
All materials and supplies provided. We will try and make sure everyone leaves with properly sharp tools.
What goes into our class pricing? As a local nonprofit, Duluth Folk School is committed to supporting both our instructors and community. We want to compensate our instructors fairly, keep class sizes small, and keep our doors open—while also keeping prices as low as we can.

Student Requirements
- Skill Level/Prerequisite Skills: No experience is needed and carvers of all skill levels and abilities are welcome.
- Best for Ages: 15 and older
- You should bring: Bring along your knives to practice on and any sharpening stones and equipment you have.
