Join our four-session mountain biking class designed specifically for mature audiences looking to enhance their comfort and confidence on the trails. Perfect for novices and those seeking to refine their skills, this course covers essential topics such as equipment selection and setup, balance, body positioning, and cadence. You’ll learn to navigate uphills and downhills safely, master cornering, separate body and bike movements, and gain control over your bike. Additionally, we’ll teach you how to hop over small obstacles and ride steep descents with control. Embark on this adventure with us and explore local trails while becoming a more skilled and confident mountain biker.
Some initial list of topics that may be covered depending on the group:
- Equipment, bike set-up, trail stewardship & etiquette
- Balance – bike position, body movement, pedal technique, grip pressure
- Efficient climbing while seated
- Gear Selection, cadence, shifting
- Braking without skidding
- Descending and Cornering
- Foundation maneuvers: wheel lifts, hops, roll downs, tight turns
Meeting Locations (note that these are tentative, dependent upon conditions – participants will be notified the day before of any changes)
- September 4: Spirit Mountain
- September 11: Lester Park
- September 18: Mission Creek
- September 25: Piedmont
You should bring…
- Fully functioning mountain bike (“dropper post” or quick release seat post preferred)
- Flat, platform pedals and closed toed shoes (no sandals)
- Helmet
- Water bottle or hydration pack
- Snacks
- Spare tube that fits your bike
- Strongly Suggested Items: Riding gloves and protective eyewear (glasses are fine).
Skill Level
Novice to intermediate skill level. We will be riding a mix of green and blue trails.
