I am a native of Belgium, and have been around bicycles all my life. I started mountain biking when there were no front or rear suspension forks, no dropper posts, no disc brakes… My mature body is thankful all these items are now part of a standard mountain bike! While my Ph.D. in Human Biomechanics has not helped me ride faster, it has allowed me to understand how differently we ride thanks to all the changes associated with the fantastic bikes being built today. With over 25 years of teaching experience, I love to convey my biomechanics knowledge to athletes while reminding them that gravity works only in one direction. When I am not coaching Duluth DEVO (a mountain bike program for youth) or lost (on purpose) in the woods, you can find me debating what makes a great croissant, explaining that Belgian waffles do not exist in Belgium, and why French fries should actually be called Belgian fries…
