Volunteer at the Duluth Folk School

“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.”
– Ryunosuke Satoro

The people who volunteer with the folk school are the backbone of our organization! By pitching in and helping, you are helping to ensure that we can continue to bring great folk education to our community!

Here are some of the things volunteers do:

  • Table at events like Harvest Fest, Chester Fall Fest, etc. While tabling, you will chat with people, talk about the folk school, help people get signed up for our newsletter, and maybe do (and help others do) a little crafting!
  • Working with our youth programs
  • Helping to set up before, or clean up after classes
  • Serve on the board or a committee

… and much more!

Current list of volunteer projects:

Tongue and Groove
– We have a bunch of recycled tongue and groove maple flooring that we’ll be reusing at some point. Before we can reuse it, there are staples/nails that need to be removed. This is a fairly easy project, but it may require a little bit of hand strength (to hold a hammer, pliers, etc). This could take one or two sessions, lasting two to four hours for each session.
– Once all the nails are removed, the flooring can be stacked.
– This is the sort of project that can be done by an individual, or a small group. The flooring is in our basement, so people would need to be able to get down the stairs.
