Duluth Folk School Instructor Tara Austin

Tara Austin

I received my MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Painting. In 2014 I took my first rosemaling class at the North House Folk School in my hometown of Grand Marais, MN.

Since then I completed a yearlong Rosemaling Apprenticeship funded by the Wisconsin Arts Board with Vesterheim Gold Medalist Andrea Herkert of Belleville, Wisconsin. Together we focused on Gudbransdal and Telemark styles of rosemaling and conducted research at the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah, IA. In 2017

I traveled to Norway to continue my research of rosemaling in 2017 funded by an International Travel Research Grant from UW Madison.
