Sara Pajunen

I am a violinist/composer from the Iron Range with experience in many styles of music. Most of my educational years were spent studying western classical music, although I was also immersed in the Finnish folk tradition (my own ancestry).

For the past ten years I’ve been touring and recording ‘new Nordic’ music with various ensembles. I’ve released six albums to date; the most recent is Aallotar’s “Ameriikan Laulu” (duo with Finnish accordionist Teija Niku).

On hiatus from graduate work at New England Conservatory in Boston, I am so glad to be living in Northern Minnesota and working on ‘Mine Songs,’ a multimedia piece inspired by field recordings of the iron mining industry/history.
