Ross Pearson, Duluth Folk School Instructor

Ross Pearson

I have been building custom fishing rods since the late 1970s. I have a custom rod business at Pearson Custom Fishing Rods, and I do rod repair work as well. Most of the rods that I build are for fresh water applications in the Duluth, MN area.

I have always enjoyed the process of taking rod building components (rod blanks, grips, reel seats, guides, etc.) and assembling them to complete a rod for a specific fishing purpose.

I have written for, and rods that I have built have appeared in, RodCrafters and RodMaker magazines.

I see fishing rods as tools for specific types of fishing. The more fishing tools you have – the more time you should be fishing! I spend most of my fishing time pursuing Kamloops rainbow trout on the shores of Lake Superior.
