Kyle Orlah
When I’m not playing, listening to recordings, reading about some funny one-off blues singer from southeastern KY, I’m usually asleep and dreaming about this stuff.
I play a regular solo show at the Thirsty Pagan every Monday, performing old-time and blues music. I also pick up a lot of gigs with the string band Four Mile Portage and for Charlie Parr when he’s hankering for some creaky fiddling.
I’ve taught privately at Musicality and currently at Rosewood Music for old-time banjo, fiddle, mandolin and guitar. My teaching style in private lessons is also very work-shop-esque: knee to knee, and call & response. The inner workings of this music are so commonly built off of a call and response structure that it just seems right to teach it this way.
Kyle uses a sweet hand-made banjo he received from Charlie Parr, and he has a passion for introducing folks to old time Americana music.
