Although I grew up in a land with no rocks (Houston, TX), I came to Minnesota for college and fell in love with geology here. After graduate school, my family and I moved to Duluth where we have lived for the last 12 years. At UMD, I teach classes ranging from introductory geology to field geology courses in Utah to graduate-level courses on rivers. I love teaching field geology and try to get my students outside as much as possible to experience the landscape we live in.
