I have been a timber framer since I started my apprenticeship in 2000 in my hometown of Aachen in Germany. Following my apprenticeship I traveled in my trade for the traditional ‘three years and one day’ of the Wanderschaft. This journey took me throughout Germany, France, Switzerland, Scandinavia and the United States. In 2006 I moved to my mother’s country of birth and initially worked and settled in Massachusetts, mostly restoring timber framed houses. In 2012 I met my wife to be, a Minnesotan and in 2014 we moved Duluth. I started my own company in 2015 and also began teaching classes at North House Folk school. Since then I’ve focussed on designing and building new timber frames, drawing on elements from the traditions I’ve seen.
