Alison Aune
I received a B.F.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1981 and I spent my junior year as an art student at Östa Grevie Folkhögskola in Sweden. I received my M.A. from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1987, and a Ph.D. from Ohio University Athens in 2000 with one year as an exchange student at the University of Trondheim Norway. I served as education coordinator at the Tweed Museum of Art from 1991 to 1999 before joining the UMD Department of Art and Design as a professor of art education.
My Nordic inspired paintings have been exhibited nationally and internationally from the American Swedish Institute and Norway House in Minneapolis, Vesterheim Norwegian Museum in Decorah Iowa to the Swedish American Museum in Chicago to the Scandinavian Cultural Center in Tacoma, Washington (2010), to venues in Sweden. I exhibited my Nordic Mandalas and Floral Icon paintings at Sahlströmsgården (2013), Torsby, and Lessebo, Samlargrafik, Kristianstad-Fjallkinge and Växjö Stadsbibliotek Sweden (2009). I have exhibited in Denmark, Norway, Italy, and Estonia.
I was a Fulbright scholar to Sweden and an American Scandinavian Foundation Doctoral Fellow recipient. I have received numerous awards including a Minnesota Initiative Grant, Art Educator of Minnesota, and a Jerome Foundation Travel Grant. My work is in the collections of the Växjö City Hall, the Tweed Museum of Art, the Walker, and in private collections in the USA, Norway, and Sweden.
