Gain practical tips, tricks, and techniques for bike commuting in winter in a workshop that focuses on both knowledge-sharing among participants, and instructor insight.

Topics covered include traffic principals and bike law, basic winter bike maintenance, clothing, gear and equipment needs, logistics of bike commuting, winter-specific safety, and discussion of available resources and fun, encouraging events.

We will provide all materials and instruction. By the end of class, you will leave with more confidence and knowledge about safely bicycling year-round. You will also receive a copy of the Minnesota Bicycling Handbook, which includes information covered in the class.

Just yourself! If you have specific questions, you are welcome to bring your bike, and we’ll cover Q&As after class. If you have reflective clothing or gear (such as vests, backpacks, or helmets with reflective fabric), or bike lights, feel free to bring them along and we’ll find out just how visible you are.

All registered participants will be entered into a drawing for some bike swag!

Winter Bike Week LogoThis class is part of Winter Bike Week, which celebrates winter biking in all its forms, whether for fun and recreation, or transportation and commuting. Working with partner organizations in the Duluth area, Winter Bike Week will host community events, educational workshops, and family-friendly bike rides to demonstrate that winter biking is fun, practical, and accessible to most people in our community. We hope to encourage everyone to embrace the beauty of winter by offering just one more way to enjoy it – by bike!
