A Well-Oiled Machine: Learn to Sew
December 1, 2016
6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Learn to love your sewing machine! In this class, we’ll take an up-close look at a few different sewing machines of varying brands and ages. How do all these moving parts work together? Learn the things your manual will and won’t tell you. We’ll use the machines incorrectly on purpose to figure out what went wrong. Threading, stitching, changing needles, cleaning/oiling, tension, and belts will all be explained. By the end of class, you’ll be sewing like a champ!
We will make a set of napkins as our example project for you to learn from, and to take home. Bring your own fabric if you have any you prefer, otherwise pre-selected fabric will be provided. Bring your own machine, even if you had to dig it out of the creepy corner of your basement!
By the end of class, you’ll be able to sit down in front of just about any sewing machine and sew!
Prerequisites
No sewing experience needed! Participants should be tall enough to operate a tabletop sewing machine from a sitting position with a pedal on the floor (or modification to raise foot). People under 10 years old are welcome, but may benefit from an adult companion to help. All attendees must be registered.
You Should Bring…
Bring your sewing machine (if you have one) with its accessories, sewing shears or craft scissors if they have them. If you have any sewing notions or machine accessories bring them along too. If you don’t have some or any of these items, let us know and we will provide them for you. The price of registration includes instruction, thread, needles, and fabric.
