Sewing Survival Skills

  •  September 15, 2018
     10:00 am - 4:00 pm
We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.

Come to this class with zero sewing experience, and leave with the confidence to repair and alter your wardrobe and your thrift store finds!

We’ll sew on buttons, fix zippers, and do basic alterations (including hemming jeans while keeping the original stitching). You’ll learn about how fabrics and garments are constructed, and get lots of ideas for working with them. We’ll practice simple and durable sewing techniques by hand, and with a sewing machine if you have one (the folk school will have a few sewing machines available).

Registration Includes

You’ll leave this class with a new set of sewing skills, samples of techniques, and as many repaired and altered items as we have time to work on.

Skill Level

No prior experienced required

Best for Ages…

13 and older

You should bring…

Most importantly, bring your sewing questions, and garments/textiles you want to mend or alter. *Note: Please make sure the items you bring in are clean. Woolens, delicates, and things that are coming apart can be gently hand washed. You can also bring any basic sewing tools you have already, like scissors, needles, and thimbles (if you don’t have these don’t worry, I will have some for you to use in class). If you would like to bring a sewing machine you’re welcome to, just please make sure it is in good working order (sewing machine repair is outside the scope of this class), and that you have the manual, spare bobbins and needles, etc.
