Mixed Media Batik

  •  August 7, 2025
     4:00 pm - 9:00 pm
We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.

Students will learn about the traditional batik process, and then explore a new and exciting process called Mixed Media Batik! This unique, relaxing, and enjoyable technique requires no prior drawing or painting knowledge.

While traditional batik uses only clear wax and colored dyes, this class will show students an encaustic method of painting melted wax and crayons onto fabric to achieve color in their artwork. Once the fabric is completely covered with wax, the piece will then be “crinkled” and dipped in cold water dye to achieve the crackling effects associated with the process of batik.

Students will use a heating/embossing tool to melt the wax along with a wax melter (similar to a scentsy burner) to apply the wax/crayon. All materials will be supplied for students to complete a 8″ x 10″ frameable art piece. Students will also be able to keep the embossing/heat tool they use in the class for future batiking!

The instructor will have several images for you to choose from for your subject matter. Due to the use of dyes for the dipping/crackling process, students may want to wear older clothes or bring an apron.

If you are ready to learn a new and exciting mixed media technique, this class is for you!
