Root Beer was once a fermented, probiotic beverage that people relied upon as a tonic in the spring. It was made from an array of locally sourced roots & herbs sweetened with sap tapped from local trees. Naturally fermented with wild yeast, these historic root beers are worlds away from what modern soda companies make today.
In this class, we will create an old-style root beer and sample several variations. Students will learn the ins and outs of fermentation, and learn how to apply this knowledge to concoct an infinite array of lightly fermented beverages.
Registration Includes
Registration is for 1 adult and 1 child. Instruction and all materials are provided. Participants have the opportunity to taste several varieties of home-made root beer, and will receive recipes for root beer and similar beverages.
What goes into our class pricing? As a local nonprofit, Duluth Folk School is committed to supporting both our instructors and community. We want to compensate our instructors fairly, keep class sizes small, and keep our doors open—while also keeping prices as low as we can.
