Got the itch to become a true cocktail-ian? Then you’ve no doubt wondered how to make your own bitters! Those little dropper bottles filled with the essence of various uncommon roots, barks, and spices are like a time warp back to the good old days of drinking, and we’ve long been aware of the healing properties of herbs.

From the medicine cabinet to the bar, bitters have a long history of curing ailments and flavoring drinks. Though they may seem mysterious, bitters are simply bitter and aromatic herbs and spices, infused or tinctured in spirits. Combining the various flavors is where the fun part comes in. There are no hard and fast rules about the types of herbs to use in bitters, so you can create bitters blends that fit your palette. This class will help you start making your own bitters at home!

We will provide a large selection of herbs and bases to choose from, and give you some basic recipes to get you started. The rest comes from your imagination and and palette. Come thirsty, and ready to taste a few bitters before creating your own blend.

Registration Includes

Instruction and all materials/ingredients. You’ll start with a quarter bottle of vodka and ingredients of your choice, and go home with your first 2 oz batch of bitters (ready in 6 weeks), You’ll also go home with lists of the best suppliers for ingredients, and a handful of recipes.

What goes into our class pricing? As a local nonprofit, Duluth Folk School is committed to supporting both our instructors and community. We want to compensate our instructors fairly, keep class sizes small, and keep our doors open—while also keeping prices as low as we can.
