I Just Got a Chainsaw, and I Don’t Really Know What I’m Doing
-
Chainsaw Safety
October 8, 2016
10:00 am - 2:00 pm
This is a great opportunity, either for people who just got their first chainsaw, or for people who have had a chainsaw for a while, but have never really been 100% comfortable with using it.
In this class, you will learn basic chainsaw maintenance, including how to take your saw apart for cleaning, sharpening the chain, and lubricating it to keep it working smoothly and properly. We will make sure you understand what type of safety equipment you should wear when cutting and where to obtain it. Finally, you will have a hands-on opportunity to practice the safe use of a chainsaw while cutting some small downed logs.
We will not be felling standing trees.
You Should Bring
If you have your own chainsaw and safety equipment (helmet, hearing protection, eye protection, chaps, steel toed boots), bring them. Otherwise, we will have saws and safety equipment you can use during class.
Age Requirements
All participants must be at least 18 years old to participate in the class.
Other Info
This class will be held at Hartley Nature Center, which received a significant amount of damage from the August storm. During the hands-on portion of class, we will be working in the ‘deer exclosure,’ which is located right behind the Hartley Nature Center building. This area has a significant number of downed trees that Hartley staff are eager for us to have our way with.
