Introduction to Celtic Fiddling

This class will serve as an introduction to various Celtic fiddle styles, including Scottish, Irish, Cape Breton, and New England Contra.

It is a goods starting point for any musician interested in Celtic music. We will discuss different types of tunes, delve into myriad styles, talking about playing at sessions, and learn a few tunes.

Registration Includes

By the end of class, you’ll go home with an understanding of many different Celtic influenced music traditions and their differences. Insight into how to continue learning traditional music at home. A handful of tunes to work on and master. A framework to play in various traditional music sessions around the Duluth area.

Skill Level

You should be able to play a violin or other instrument.

Best for Ages…

18 and older

You should bring…

A violin (other instruments are welcome, but we cannot teach directly to anything besides the violin). A voice recorder will also be helpful to record tunes (phones are fine for this).
