Duluth Public Lands 101

  •  May 21, 2026
     6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The pending transfer of the former Lester Park golf course has generated a lot of interest about public land in Duluth. Our city has amazing trails and outdoor spaces, but many properties we think of as “park” have limited protection from sale or development.

Join the Duluth Area Outdoor Alliance (DAOA) at the Duluth Folk School for an informative presentation about public lands in Duluth. We will explore what these lands are, their vulnerabilities to sale or transfer, and the protections that are in place, if any. The discussion will cover our existing parks and open spaces and how we arrived at our current situation. Additionally, we’ll highlight steps each of us can take to help ensure that Duluth remains a “green belt” city.

Whether you’re a trail user, someone who lives near or values open spaces, or are simply curious about how land decisions are made in Duluth, this event is designed to build shared understanding around a complex topic. Free and open to all!
