Winter in the great North Woods can be magical – quietly trekking through deep snow on your very own handcrafted wooden snowshoes.
In this class you will use a locally made kit of white ash frames and white nylon lacing to weave your own pair of traditional snowshoes. The ash frames are flexible and strong, and the nylon lacing is extremely durable and long lasting.
Developing the skill of lacing and following the pattern can be difficult at first, but with guidance from our expert instructor, you will get the hang of it to the point of enjoying the lacing process. Many people want to do more snowshoes once they have finished their first pair.
Techniques for weaving, learning the right knots to use, and how to care for your snowshoes are all part of the class.
Registration Includes
Lacing instructions, wooden frames and nylon lacing. By the end of class, you’ll have a pair of new snowshoes you’ve laced yourself!
Two notes:
- Your snowshoes will need to be varnished before use. We’ll give you suggestions about which varnish to use.
- You’ll need snowshoe bindings, which we’ll talk about in class
