Transit Talk: The Rise and Fall of Passenger Rail Service in the Midwest
-
April 17, 2025
5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Trains! We grew up hearing about how trains built the country: but what happened to all the passenger rail service, and why? And what was taking the train like during its heyday after WWII, anyway?
Join Aaron Branksy, amateur train historian and semi-reformed freighthopper, as he recounts the fascinating story of the rise and fall of passenger rail service in the Midwest. Entwined is his own life arcs: of love, research, loss, and lessons learned from a golden age of travel.
And, of course, from the Depot to Jay Cooke, the history of passenger rail has and still shapes our present. We’ll hear a bit about the contemporary world as well!
