Sweaters to Mittens!
-
March 3, 2018
12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Got old woolen sweaters or coats taking up space in your drawers and closets? Maybe you just can’t part with them, or they have accidentally been shrunken? This class is your solution to giving that clothing new life in the form of attractive, functional, warm mittens!
During this class, our goal is to complete at least one pair of mittens from beginning to end. The mittens can be made in a variety of sizes.
The lining will be made from new non-pill polar fleece, and embellished with buttons. A variety of colors will be available.
I will also show you examples of other forms of embellishment that you may want to try later.
Come join the fun – every pair will be different!
Registration Includes
We will provide all (or mostly all) materials: Pattern, thread, buttons, non-pill polar fleece, and use of sewing machines, scissors, pins and needles and instruction. If you don’t bring your own old sweater or wool coat, you may purchase pieces during class for $5.00 or less.
Skill Level
The only skill needed is basic experience using a standard sewing machine.
Best for Ages…
18 and up
You should bring…
Bring an old sweater. Bring more than one if you want to combine colors/parts of each. I don’t recommend your very best sweater, since this is your first time, but it’s up to you. Pre-washed wool or partial wool is best, but, it doesn’t have to be. Avoid loose bulky knit cotton sweaters. A wool coat will also do the trick! If you don’t have a sweater or coat, I will have extra pieces available to purchase for under $5. There will be scissors available, but if you want to bring your own fabric scissor, you are encouraged to do so.
