Do you have old woolen sweaters or coats taking up space in your drawers and closets? Maybe you just can’t part with them, or they have accidentally been shrunken? This class is your solution to giving that clothing new life in the form of attractive, functional, warm mittens!
During this class, our goal is to complete one pair of mittens from beginning to end.
The lining will be made from new non-pill polar fleece and embellished with buttons. A variety of colors will be available. You will also see examples of other forms of embellishment that you may want to try later.
Come join the fun – every pair will be different!
Pattern, thread, buttons, non-pill polar fleece, pins, needles and instruction. Scissors and sewing machines are available if you don’t bring your own. Extra fleece will be available; if you do not bring a sweater, you can make both the lining and the outside out of fleece.
You should have basic experience using a sewing machine. There is a bit of hand sewing at the end.
Best for Ages…
18 and up
You should bring…
- Bring an old sweater. Bring more than one if you want to combine colors/parts of each. I recommend
not using your very best sweater for your first pair. Pre-washed wool or partial wool is best, but it
doesn’t have to be. Avoid loose bulky knit cotton sweaters and ones that easily ravel. A wool coat will
also do the trick!
- Bring sharp fabric scissors, if you have them.
- Bring your own sewing machine, if possible. We will have a few sewing machines available to use, but
most people are more comfortable using their own.
