12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Using fabric scraps from your stash, this beginner-friendly String Quilt is easy and fun to create. Repurposed clothing – preferably cotton fabrics – can also be used to make these quilt blocks. Historically, women made String Quilts from used, old, and new fabrics. For some interesting String Quilt history, please check out this website: https://www.antiquequiltdating.com/String_Quilts_Match_the_Economic_Times,_Past_and_Present.html.
In this class, you will bring a bag of fabric scraps and learn easy straight-line sewing methods for constructing the quilt blocks. We will create square blocks and discuss alternative block shapes and layout options. Students will be encouraged to share and swap fabrics with each other, too. A relatively simple block, this quilt provides plenty of room for creativity and is a joy to make. The number of quilt blocks you make will determine the size of your quilt.
Note: You must bring a sewing machine in good working order and know how to use it.
