Welcome to the wonderful world of social waltzing! For hundreds of years, waltzing has been a focal point for fun and community. In this class, you’ll learn the basics of social waltzing, including how to hear and move to waltzing music, how to do this in partnership with someone else, and the basic tenets of social partner dancing.
For this beginning class, you will learn both roles (“lead” and “follow”), and will rotate partners frequently. This will ensure that everyone gains the fundamentals needed for future learning.
You will be learning a modern social waltz called the “cross-step” waltz. Cross-step is a bit different than the more technically-demanding ballroom waltzes you may see on TV. Cross-step waltz is faster to learn, less formal, are more fun to dance socially.
If you’re like most people, you’ve probably never done any social partner dancing! This is a great introduction. If you’ve done other kinds of social dancing, you’ll probably enjoy this class too: social waltzing is an enjoyable activity that’s not quite like anything else.
