Slow Friending
-
May 17, 2025
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
It’s time to make some new acquaintances and connections! Join Duluth Folk School and a small cohort of like-minded people for one-on-one conversations. We will follow this with a Lincoln Park Art Walk, and conclude back at Duluth Folk School for an optional meal.
The premise is that people enjoy meeting and having conversations with a variety of new people, but don’t always have as much opportunity to do so as they would like! So we will rotate conversation partners until everyone has met everyone, and then we’ll do something together as a newly-made group of acquaintances. It’ll be fun!
“Slow Friending” is a calmer and slightly slower variation of our popular “Speed Friending” events. Unlike Speed Friending, this event requires preregistration, has a capped attendee limit, includes additional activities, and requires a donation in support of operations at Duluth Folk School.
The goal of Slow Friending isn’t to create “best friends,” but to create more human connection in its variety of forms and purposes. We should talk occasionally with people, even ones we won’t be hanging out with!
Whether you’re old or young, from near or far, consider yourself introverted or extroverted, or anything in-between — this event is for you. If you’re a friendly person, you’re welcome and should come!
Registration Includes
The Slow Friending event as well as a Lincoln Park Art Walk are included in registration. Participants will learn a social rotational mixer and gain practice talking with people of a variety of different ages and background. Every participant will leave having made some new acquaintances and gain a better sense of their community.
What goes into our class pricing? As a local nonprofit, Duluth Folk School is committed to supporting both our instructors and community. We want to compensate our instructors fairly, keep class sizes small, and keep our doors open—while also keeping prices as low as we can.
Thank you for participating in our local handcraft and education economy! Together, we help keep Duluth a fun and vibrant place.
