Relief carve a design of your choice in easy-to-carve cottonwood bark. The possibilities are endless; see the two examples that the instructor carved, or enter “cottonwood bark carving” into an internet image search for more ideas. You are free to make a drawing of your idea or ideas ahead of time, in class or the instructor will assist with drawing your design on paper or directly on the material if you would like. You will learn about dealing with perspective and vanishing points; concepts also used in drawing and painting. You will also go home two additional pieces of cottonwood bark to continue developing your new carving skills!
