There are 35 species of wild, native orchids in the Minnesota Arrowhead region, and they come in a wide variety of sizes, colors, shapes, and seasonal blooms.  Here is an opportunity to learn about these delightful plants so that when you encounter them in the field, you will have a better understanding and appreciation of these fascinating treasures in our natural world.  This is a paired classroom and field trip event.  The field trip may involve driving and hiking short distances over uneven ground.

Registration Includes

Instruction and a guided hike to observe native orchids.

What goes into our class pricing? As a local nonprofit, Duluth Folk School is committed to supporting both our instructors and community. We want to compensate our instructors fairly, keep class sizes small, and keep our doors open—while also keeping prices as low as we can.

Thank you for participating in our local handcraft and education economy! Together, we help keep Duluth a fun and vibrant place.

Day 2 will take place at the Boulder Lake Management Area (BLMA) north of Duluth. You will need to provide your own transportation to get there. Please allow adequate time for arriving at the starting point.  Parking is by the green gate at the North Trailhead Parking, Boulder Dam Road, Duluth MN (not at the public water access parking at the end of the road).  See this map.

The availability of orchid blooms may change that target area for Day 2 as the spring unfolds.
