By combining original compositions with an innovative instrumentation of Indian tabla drums, guitar, and violin, Sprig of That brings joy, virtuosity, and musical adventure to audiences!
Their music, comprising original works and fresh arrangements of folk favorites, pulls from their collective influences as musicians: Western and contemporary classical, Indian classical, old-time and bluegrass, Celtic, jazz, rock, and folk. Since forming in early 2018, Sprig of That has made an impact on the Twin Cities music scene, and in February 2019, they released their first five-song EP. They were featured on The Current’s “Friday Five” music video series, as well as in the Local Current Blog’s “Watch Standout Minnesota Submissions to NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest”, and Kevin Barnes’ String Theory on Jazz 88.
With performances at Twin Cities staples such as The Cedar Cultural Center, a six-part monthly community-centered residency at the Black Dog Cafe, and educational workshops at St. Paul Conservatory for the Arts, universities across the Midwest, and through MPR’s Class Notes Program, Sprig of That is equally at home in popular venues and educational spaces. Sprig of That has opened for prominent groups including Upstate The Way Down Wanderers, and recently participated in a week-long Audience Engagement Intensive workshop at Carnegie Hall.
Through vibrant performances and interactive workshops, Sprig of That hopes to bring a greater understanding of creativity and forward movement in cross-genre collaborations.
