Music: Luke Callen and Superior Siren (solo)

  •  November 30, 2019
     7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Come on down to the Dovetail for a free show!

We’re sorry to report this show has been canceled, due to weather

This one’s a two-fer: Luke Callen and Superior Siren (solo) have both played here before, but never on the same night!

Luke Callen is originally from the river town of La Crosse, Wisconsin – the heart of the Driftless Region – and he currently lives in Minneapolis, MN by way of Colorado.  A teller of tall tales and a singer of short tunes, Luke lugs around a couple of guitars, a few harmonicas, and even a banjo if he has to.

Having steeped himself like a cheap bag of tea that you found in a drawer you rarely open, in the recordings of Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music, to campfires, classrooms, honkytonks, festivals, and clubs across the country, Luke brings his humble sense of humor and humanity. With his Chevy Astro greased up, Luke has played hundreds of shows spanning both coasts, the American west, south and heartland. He has had the opportunity to provide support for Dom Flemons, Dead Horses, The Dustbowl Revival, Kacy & Clayton, James McMurtry, Whiskey Shivers, Charlie Parr, The Lowest Pair, The Last Revel, Lilly Hiatt, Chicago Farmer, and Robbie Fulks among others.

S U P E R I O R  S I R E N is an all-female Eerie Folk project, created on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. The music vexes listeners with alluring vocals, haunting melodies, and mesmerizing blends of strings and percussion.

Superior Siren is led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Laura Sellner. Since her solo debut in 2012, the musician has continued to captivate audiences with songs of unfeigned honesty and heartfelt emotions. In 2015 Sellner joined forces with cellist Rachel Gobin, bassist Nyssa Krause, and drummer Emma Deaner to craft a dark and raw folk sound.
