In this class you will learn basic macrame knots and apply them to make your own custom chunky cotton plant hanger. Macrame is a set of knotting techniques to create textiles. Plant hangers are one of the easiest things to make with macrame and look great in the home. Shh, it looks a lot more complicated than it is! I will go over the process from start to finish: gathering supplies, cutting rope, getting started, knotting it up, and trimming the ends to finish it off. I’ll share how I like to hang the things from an indoor ceiling. If you would like to incorporate a small piece (1-2″ diameter, 3-8″ length) of driftwood as part of the hanger feel free to bring a piece.
You will go home with an understanding of basic macrame knots including: lark’s head knot, square knots, sinnets and half-knot sinnets, and a wrap knot. You will also go home with one plant hanger of custom length.
You should bring…
One pair sharp (fabric) scissors.
Optional: If you would like to incorporate a small piece (1-2″ diameter, 3-8″ length) of driftwood as part of the hanger feel free to bring a piece. You can also bring beads to incorporate if desired. Beads should have openings of at least 5mm in diameter to fit on the chunky rope we’ll use. Bring a multiple of three!
