CANCELLED – Foraging Foray at Brewer Park

  •  September 9, 2024
     5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.

The definition of ‘foray’ in the dictionary is: a sudden attack or incursion into enemy territory, especially to obtain something; a raid.

During this class, we will not be raiding enemy territory. Instead, you will be trying your hand at identifying plants and fungi in our local Duluth region. ‘Foray’ can often be interchanged with the word ‘forage.’

This class will focus on teaching you the basics and the how-to of identification. It is a beginner-level course for those who may be too nervous to try wild plants and mushrooms or for someone who needs guidance in identification. We will focus on wild edibles, but foraging can also include searching for fibers, weaving materials, and other craft supplies.

Registration Includes…

Students will go home with the knowledge of how to identify plants and mushrooms on their own. There is a chance to go home with wild edibles and depending on time of year may be able to try things in the field if you are comfortable.

You should bring…

Bring a basket or bag to carry any finds.

Please dress for the weather. Also, please bring: A water bottle, Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, apply sunscreen ahead of time), tick protection (long pants to tuck into socks) and sturdy shoes for walking on uneven surfaces.

You can also bring whatever foraging books you have at home for reference – no need to buy new books for the class. This is so you can learn how to use your current resources. And bring a charged smart phone if you have one
