We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.

This free handcrafting experience is a part of our Youth Canoe Building program and is intended to provide under-served and under-represented youth in our area the opportunity to gain woodworking experience and life skills as they work to make a canoe paddle that can connect them to outdoor spaces!

In this program, you’ll make your own straight-shaft canoe paddle, using basswood with accents of western cedar. We’ll go through all of the steps of making your paddle, from gluing the blade and the grip onto a prepared shaft, and then working to shape your paddle, using both hand and power tools. You’ll learn characteristics of various types of paddles, materials, and how to size a paddle to an individual person. After participating in this program, you’ll also be invited to put your new paddle to use in our youth-built canoes this summer! Snacks will be provided!

If you’re not able to attend all of the sessions but would still like to try paddle making, you can work on paddles that will be used with the youth-built canoes! Contact Erika to let her know which days you’ll be attending.

Registration Includes

Instruction, all materials. After attending all four sessions, you’ll have your very own canoe paddle to display and use to explore our waterways! (If you’re not able to attend all of the sessions but would still like to try paddle making, you can work on paddles that will be used with the youth-built canoes)
