The Duluth Folk School is partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland and Men as Peacemakers to build a skin-on-frame canoe!

The Canoe Building Program is part of our “Building Opportunities and Assets Together” program, which provides under-represented and under-served area youth the opportunity to build a canoe. By building canoes, we are teaching young people craftsmanship skills, discipline, and work habits, and helping to bolster self-confidence. Canoe building connects youth with our local rivers, lakes, and the wonderful opportunities and lessons of our natural world – an important teaching strategy that too many children are missing. Building canoes integrates relationship-building with adult volunteers who provide support and serve as role models.

Youth ages 13 – 18 can sign up for this FREE program in one of two ways:

  • You can register for the morning session (9:30am – 12:30pm) with Men as Peacemakers by contacting Serrano at serrano@menaspeacemakers.org
  • You can register for the afternoon session (1:00pm – 4:30pm) with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland by calling Emily at 218-727-1549

You only need to sign up for one session, either Morning Session, or Afternoon Session.

The completed canoe will be housed at the Duluth Folk School, and will be available for program participants.
