This class will give you the knowledge and confidence to plan and carry out your own Boundary Waters canoe trip this summer!
By the end of this class folks will have the practical knowledge needed to plan and embark on their first trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. This will include pre-trip components such as route planning considerations, tips for creating a tasty and nutritious backcountry menu, and gear selection as well as an introduction to on trail skills like navigating with a map and compass, risk management, and fostering positive group dynamics.
Registration Includes
Students will go home with a selection of practical trip planning tools including a selection of backcountry meals, pre-trip gear checklist, and their own framework for planning and carrying out their first canoe trip to the BWCA. You will also gain access to trip planning resources (physical and digital), and materials that can be used for planning future trips.
