Have you ever wondered how a caned chair seat is made? Do you have one (or more) caned chair seats to replace? If so, then this is the class for you!
In this class, you will hand cane a wooden trivet using natural strand cane to learn the chair caning process. Other topics that will be discussed include:
- difference between various types of caning
- different types of caning materials
- the 7-step method of hand caning
- how to care for caned furniture
- chair caning resources
Registration Includes
Patient instruction. You will learn the 7-step chair caning process by caning a trivet that you will take home to use and for reference when working on your caning project. Additionally, you will take home caning pegs, an instruction booklet, and your leftover kit materials (combined, a $25 value).
We will take a one-hour break for lunch (the Dovetail Cafe will be open!).
You should bring…
- small hand clippers or shears
- 2 small rags
- spray bottle
- bucket
- an awl or ice pick
- paper for notes, and a pen or pencil
