Are you interested in learning more about the history of art? Want to know more about what defines each art movement? Are you curious to try different art mediums in a supported environment? Join us for Art Through the Ages! A multi-week tour through some of the greatest art movements of all time, and a creative exploration of common art supplies.

Each class consists of a 30-minute lecture where you will explore and discuss key concepts, stylistic features, and iconic artists from each art movement. Following the lecture, you will dive into a creative project inspired by the current period and learn how to use various art mediums. (Example- Impressionism and watercolor flowers)

Join us as we learn about key moments in art history and try to recreate different art styles as we progress through time! Come learn about Prehistoric art, Pop Art, and everything in between.

In this session we will learn about French Rococo (1699-1780) and the project will be Model Magic emblems and flourishes.

Registration Includes

Students will go home with general knowledge about important art movements, focusing on why these movements were so influential and their impacts on the art world. Students will also learn the basics of common art supplies and the various techniques that can be used.  Students will go home with a work of art created and the knowledge to keep on creating.

What goes into our class pricing? As a local nonprofit, Duluth Folk School is committed to supporting both our instructors and community. We want to compensate our instructors fairly, keep class sizes small, and keep our doors open—while also keeping prices as low as we can.

  • Skill Level/Prerequisite Skills: This class is for anyone
  • Best for Ages: 18 and older
  • You should bring: Just yourself, students may want to wear clothes they do not mind getting messy/dirty.
