Nomadic Felts for the Home

We will begin this class in Central Asia, discovering how felt is used, why it is such an important textile for the people of Kyrgyzstan, and fill ourselves with inspiration!

You will then get your own hands into the wool as everyone begins making their own felt. This a great introductory class, as we will be making flat pieces of felt that can be used as coasters, trivets, place mats, small rugs, or a wall hanging. The class will cover a handful of different ways you can create detailed designs in your felt- from pre-felt to hand spinning. We will be shrinking the wool by hand, so please come prepared to be on your feet and physically engaged in your project.

Registration Includes

Participants will go home with some combination of felt coasters, trivets, placemats, or a small rug, along with knowledge of felt-making traditions from Kyrgyzstan.

2 bath towels, a bowl to hold soapy water, a cotton rag (old t-shirts work great), notebook, yard stick, sharp scissors, and a bag to bring home your wet project
