If the title of this course caught your eye, you have already demonstrated the first qualification of this course: you want to know how to safely and effectively operate a chainsaw!

Chainsaw Safety with the Duluth Folk SchoolThis class will be a full-spectrum overview, starting with how to safely start and operate your chainsaw, and going all the way to safely bringing full trees down, and how to harvest them once they are down.

Cutting trees with a chainsaw can be intimidating, but taking the time to learn safe and proper technique in a small group setting takes off the edge, puts the sawyer (that’s you!) at ease, and builds the confidence needed to proceed safely. This course will be set up to do exactly that. You will go through the journey of sizing up a tree to timber down, in a progressive and enjoyable path.

Chainsaw Class

In addition to learning how to maintain your saw for maximum effectiveness, you will learn how to conduct “situational awareness,” you will watch and practice bucking & limbing, making face cuts, and you will learn to fell a standing tree.

Be ready for a class full of hands-on, full circle and holistic learning. We are very excited to teach you a new and very useful skill!
