Catching the Buzz: Beekeeping for Beginners

*All registrations must be completed by April 9 so we have time to order supplies – don’t delay!

In this class, you will learn about what is required (time, effort, cost) to manage honeybees in northern Minnesota. With the instructor there to guide you, you will  assemble your own Langsroth hive from a kit, and you’ll leave class with a completed hive!

Beginner Beekeeping with the Duluth Folk School

 

By the end of class, you’ll have learned basic beekeeping skills, where to place your hives, different types of honeybees, what tools to use, and personal protection options.

In addition to building a hive, you’ll also have the opportunity to sample and compare several types of honey!

Best for Ages

13 and up

You should bring…

  • Hammer
  • 7″ or larger carpenter’s square (we have extras if you need one)
  • Protective gear of your choice for minor woodworking (we also have extra ear plugs, safety glasses, etc.)
