Duluth Folk School Assumption of Risk Agreement and Liability Release

I acknowledge and I am aware that the program for which I have registered could involve risks or hazards. These may include, but are not limited to, risks associated with the use of power tools, sharp hand tools, hiking on uneven trails, canoeing or kayaking, or being outdoors in all weather conditions.

I hereby release the Duluth Folk School, LLC, including all its personnel, agents, affiliates, staff, contractors, and volunteers from any and all liabilities to me due to injury, sickness, disease, and/or loss or damage of personal property. This release does not apply to liabilities due to gross negligence or wanton reckless misconduct by Duluth Folk School, LLC, including all its personnel, agents, affiliates, staff, contractors, or volunteers. Apart from that exception, this release applies to any and all liabilities to me or my estate of any description, whether involving fees and expenses or any kind.

In the event that some person, entity, or party seeks compensation for these liabilities, I or my estate will indemnify and hold harmless Duluth Folk School, LLC, its personnel, agents, affiliates, staff, contractors, and volunteers for all sums reasonably incurred in response to that claim. This release is to be interpreted and enforced under Minnesota State Law.

Duluth Folk School Photo Release

I hereby authorize the Duluth Folk School, LLC to publish photographs taken of me solely for use in promotional materials for the Duluth Folk School. I acknowledge that since my participation in Duluth Folk School activities is voluntary, I will receive no financial compensation and that there is no right of ownership.

Welcome
All students are welcome at the Duluth Folk School, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, national or ethnic origin.

Smoking
Smoking is not allowed at any Duluth Folk School event.

Drugs
Illegal drugs are not permitted at Duluth Folk School events.

Personal Property
The Folk School is not responsible for the security of property belonging to students and instructors.

How early should I register?

You should register as soon as you can! We keep our classes small, so classes may fill very quickly.

Waiting Lists
We keep a waiting list for all filled courses. If you are on the waiting list, we will only contact you if a space becomes available.

Payment

All registrations are made online through the Duluth Folk School website’s secure payment gateway.

When you register for a course, you have reserved a place for yourself in that course. Registrations are filled on a first come, first served basis. Early registrations make a big difference in our ability to hold classes!

Student Withdrawal/Cancellation
Because of registration costs, faculty contracts, material acquisitions, and venue rentals, the Duluth Folk School is required to charge cancellation fees to students who change their itineraries.

Please note:
Once you have registered for a class, cancellation fees apply, regardless of the reason for canceling.

  1. A full refund will be given when a cancellation is received 30 days before the course date.
  2. A 50% refund will be given if your cancellation is received at least 15 days before the course date.
  3. If you must cancel within two weeks of the course date, no refund will be given.
  4. No refunds will be made after the start date of a class.

Registrations are not transferable.

Course Cancellation

The Duluth Folk School will conduct courses for which a minimum number of students are registered. Only in instances extreme weather will a course, or portions of a course be cancelled. If the Duluth Folk School must cancel a course, registered students will be given the opportunity to enroll in another course, with no transfer penalty. A full refund will be given to students who are not able to transfer.

Accessibility
Duluth Folk School classes are held in a variety of classrooms, and may occasionally include terrain which is hilly and uneven. If you have mobility restrictions, please contact us to discuss access to classes.
