Introduction to Felting

Example of Felting

In this introduction to felting class we will talk about some of the stories and traditions of felt making, while also learning how to craft felt for use in our own homes.

Felt is an incredibly durable, beautiful, and useful fabric. From saddle pads to yurt walls, and from boots to travel bags, felt has been an integral part of the everyday life of nomadic herding cultures of Central Asia.

The process of feltingThis introductory course will focus on coasters, trivets, placemats or hot pads, depending on interest. We will be wet-felting our projects from carded wool. During this process the wool shrinks 40%, all done by hand, so please come prepared to be on your feet and physically engaged in your project.
